Why choose a chiller over ice?
Filling a tub with bags of ice gets expensive and inconvenient fast, and the temperature drifts as it melts. A chiller keeps the water at the temperature you set, day after day, so your plunge is ready whenever you are. Many chiller units also heat, which means the same tub can be used as a warm soak.
What to look for
- Temperature range. Check how cold (and how warm) the unit can go. The Orivon Frost, for example, lists a range of 37–108°F.
- Chiller power. A stronger chiller (measured in horsepower) cools water faster and holds temperature better in warm weather.
- Filtration. Built-in filtration keeps water clean longer between changes.
- Placement. Tubs are heavy when full, so choose a level, sturdy surface with drainage nearby and access to power. Indoors, a garage or basement floor works well. Outdoors, consider shade to help the chiller.
- Power. Check the electrical requirements on the product page and plan an outlet or circuit before delivery.
